When I was a kid, Meredith Monk’s Dolmen Music gave me the creeps. And I liked that feeling a lot, coming from someone’s singing and eerie piano. Everytime I played the Gotham Lullaby felt with surprise that the more simple you put complex feelings, the stronger they appear. She must be the first singer I heard that made me think of the voice as a tool for communication beyond -or before- words.
